ShelterCare is a local nonprofit, organized more than four decades ago to serve homeless families. For a quarter-century, the organization has been providing transitional support for families leaving shelter. Their focus is on families, persons with mental illness, and those with brain injuries.</p> Mon, 03 Mar 2014 16:26:00 +0000 Desmond O'Boyle 9066 at http://klcc.org Whitaker Dinner Reducing Waste Through Reusable Utensils http://klcc.org/post/whitaker-dinner-reducing-waste-through-reusable-utensils <p>The annual <a href="http://wcdinner.org/">Whitaker Dinne</a>r is trying to reduce its material waste, and has taken a big step towards doing so through reusable silverware.&nbsp;</p><p>The Lane County Master Recycler program came up with the idea of acquiring metal utensils about 3 years&nbsp; ago and finally reached their goal last month. 3,000 forks, 1,500 knives and 1,200 spoons have been collected to be used by the more than 2,000 people who attend the banquet.
