The occupation of Malheur National Wildlife Refuge cost taxpayers millions of dollars. GOHOME – a campaign dedicated in part to the occupiers' eviction – raised $125,000.
Getting the Occupiers of Historic Oregon Malheur Evicted will distribute the money to organizations like the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Burns Pauite Tribe.
Jake and Zach Klonoski, brothers born and raised in Eugene, created GOHOME. They chose to give money to 5 specific groups seen as antithetical to the occupation.
Jake says he wasn't alone in his intense frustration with the occupation and felt he had to act.
KLONOSKI: "People were just emotionally affected in a very profound way by the actions of these guys from out of state that came into our home and tried to take something that we might not have even appreciated what we had, away. The one thing that the Bundy's did is they let people know, in Oregon, what a treasure we have out in Harney County, both in the refuge and in the people out there."
Klonoski says 100% of all donations will go to the groups involved. He says he hopes to visit the wildlife refuge with his family soon.
