2015 Oregon Legislature Update

Jul 20, 2015

Recorded on: July 17, 2015

Air Date: July 20th, 2015

City Club welcomes Oregon State House Majority Leader Val Hoyle, Oregon State Senator Lee Beyer and Lane County Commissioner Jay Bozievich to recap the 2015 Legislative Session.  Representative Hoyle represents West Eugene and Junction City, while Senator Beyer serves the voters of SE Eugene, Goshen, East Lane County, Southern Linn County, and Springfield. Commissioner Bozievich represents West Lane County including portions of North Eugene.

The Legislature tackled some big issues this session, passing bills to mandate paid sick leave, allow the prescription of a year's worth of birth control, mandate clean fuels, require background checks in gun purchases, register voters automatically upon the issuance of a driver license, and provide an opt out retirement system for workers not enrolled in a retirement savings plan.  Critics fault the Legislature for failing to address tax reform, PERS underfunding, and for prolonging the underfunding of the K-12 budget..  Who won and who lost this legislative session?

Please join us to hear from the senior members of our local legislative delegation about these subjects and what will happen between this session and next.  Commissioner Bozievich will provide his perspective of how the legislature impacted local governments with their actions or inactions and in particular Lane County.
