The 54th Annual Scandinavian Festival kicks off Thursday in Junction City. Recently, the festival was honored with an award for its ongoing legacy.
The “Oregon Heritage Tradition Designation” was awarded to the Scandinavian Festival this year. The award is bestowed to festivals and fairs that have been running for 50 years or longer. Mark Crenshaw, president of the Scandinavian Festival explains it’s not just the age of the festival that makes it stand out.
Crenshaw: “We’re only one of a handful of events that happen here in Oregon that help define the state, not only the culture but the traditions and it’s a big recognition from the state of Oregon.”
The Scandinavian Festival will continue through Sunday. Each day celebrates a different Scandinavian nationality.
