Lane County’s housing services agency is seeing a steady number of applicants for Section 8 housing vouchers.

Jacob Fox is Executive Director for Homes for Good – formerly Housing and Community Services Agency of Lane County (HACSA). He says last year when they opened up their waiting list for a 10-day period, nearly 5,000 people signed up. That’s more than twice the number from almost five years ago.

“And one of the thing too we like people to remember, is that’s just not individuals. That includes families," says Fox.

"So almost 9,000 people in Lane County need our help through the Section 8 program.”

Homes for Good spokeswoman Ela Kubok adds people are getting priced out of the Eugene market, as housing stock remains inadequate and salaries aren’t increasing with home prices.
