After a long night of uncertainty, the tight race for House District 14 is over…with Democrat Julie Fahey as the winner.
Fahey beat Republican Kathy Lamberg with 51 percent of the vote.
Fahey came to KLCC studios and says she’s looking forward to helping address some of Oregon’s issues. She says this will have to be done without boosted corporate minimum tax, which would’ve happened had Measure 97 passed on Election Day.
“With the failure of (Measure) 97 there’s going to be a pretty significant hole in the budget for the next biennium, so the first order of business will be figuring out where there are new sources revenue or a combination of revenue and cuts that will be made, make a budget for the next biennium.”
Fahey wants a budget that supports schools, tackles the expense of higher education, and also supports small businesses.
Oregon House District 14 contains West Eugene, Bethel and Junction City.
