Ballots go in the mail Friday for the May 2014 Primary. Election Day is May 20th. Even though it's an off-year election-- with no presidential primary-- officials hope for a good voter turnout.
Only 39 percent of Oregon voters participated in the 2012 primary. Lane County Clerk Cheryl Betschart expects turnout to be comparable this year-- but hopes for better.
Betschart: "Certainly in Lane County the commission races always have a nice response and they're all contested. There are three of them. We're looking at two local measures in Fern Ridge School District and Pleasant Hill School District. Other than that, obviously state positions. There are no state measures this time. So, there's certainly some local issues that will be of interest to people."
County Commission races are contested in Douglas, Linn, Benton, Lincoln and Deschutes County too. Betschart says registered voters should receive their ballots in the next few days.
