The hopes of the top-ranked Oregon State University baseball team were dashed Monday night after they were eliminated from the NCAA tournament. The Beavers lost to UC Irvine 4-2 in the Regional finals. A dejected Head Coach Pat Casey spoke after the game, the fifth of the weekend for the team.
Casey: "Obviously it's a tough day for us. I told them halfway through the year that if we didn't get where I thought we should get, that it would be my responsibility and not theirs. And that's the way I feel about it. When you're up against it with an extra game, usually you're not able get that kind of pitching. We're a little short to score runs down the stretch here and it caught up with us tonight."
Oregon State was the number one seed going into the post season. but they're not alone. They're one of 9 top-ranked teams that lost in the first-round of the post season.
