City Club of Eugene: What You Need To Know About The Tech Industry In Eugene

The tech industry is booming in Eugene, bringing in young professionals, entrepreneurs, artists, game designers, programmers, and skilled workers of all kinds.  These people could work in Seattle, Portland or Silicon Valley but chose to settle in Eugene.  What drew them here? What impact does this new industry have on Eugene?  What is the extent of the tech industry here?  What is the economic impact? What is the community involvement of the members of this business segment?  What can Eugene do to continue to attract new businesses with good paying jobs?  Is there any downside of this explosive growth?

Speaker Biographies:

Cale Bruckner is the President at the design & engineering consultancy firm, Concentric Sky. He is the former Senior VP of Product Development at Palo Alto Software.  He launched a campaign to brand the Eugene-Springfield technology community the Silicon Shire in an effort to increase national visibility and attract talent.

Sabrina Parsons is CEO of Palo Alto Software.  Palo Alto Software develops software and tools targeted for entrepreneurs and small-business owners.  Sabrina is responsible for Palo Alto's business planning, fiscal and strategic goals and all of the company's traditional marketing.

Celeste Marshall is the Director of Human Resources at IDX Broker. Celeste works closely with the IDX leadership team to identify, develop and implement strategic organizational initiatives designed to increase employee engagement and performance.

First Questioner Biography:

Matt Sayre is the Director of the Technology Association of Oregon (TAO). In 2015, TAO helped Eugene secure a 'Top 10 up and coming tech cities in the Nation' title from Fast Company Magazine. The focus is on building community in the tech local industry to increase regional economic prosperity.

Love Cross joined KLCC in 2017. She began her public radio career as a graduate student, serving as Morning Edition Host for Boise State Public Radio in the late 1990s. She earned her undergraduate degree in Rhetoric and Communication from University of California at Davis, and her Master’s Degree from Boise State University. In addition to her work in public radio, Love teaches college-level courses in Communication and Sociology.
