Councilors Voice Concerns About Project Proposed Downtown Eugene

Rachael McDonald

The EugeneCity Council voted Wednesday to sell city property to a developer that wants to put workforce housing downtown. But, the proposed 5-story project would interfere with KLCC’s air signal.

Granite Properties wants to build on the existing Rogue Ales site. The council, in its capacity as Urban Renewal Agency, voted 5 to 1 to sell the small section of parking lot behind Rogue. Councilor George Brown and others agreed the radio station should be held harmless if the project goes forward.
"To have that cut off with no remedy would be, generate a lot of frustration and anger and it would be the loss of a great service."
Granite Properties is seeking the city's revised Multi-Unit Property Tax Exemption. Under the new policy it only applies to workforce housing downtown. Brown pointed out the city hasn't defined what workforce housing means. Granite has said that without a MUPTE it won't proceed with the project.
