County Moves Forward On Hiring New Administrator

Lane County

The Lane County Board of Commissioners will use a Washington State recruitment firm to find candidates for their new Administrator.

The board is working with Prothman Recruiting to screen applicants for the County Administrator position. The former administrator Liane Richardson was fired this summer after she was found to be converting vacation and other compensation into take-home pay. Richardson had pressed for a pay raise last January. County Chair Sid Leiken says another firm looked at the salary Lane County is offering its administrator and found it on par with other similar sized counties.

Leiken: "But I guess ironically, when you look at their median wage, we're right in the ball park of what we're offering the administrator now. And even though there were maybe suggestions we were quite a bit under in January, that's not what this analysis is showing."

Leiken says that salary range is at around $150 - 160 thousand a year. The recruitment for a new County Administrator is expected to take 10 to 14 weeks. Alicia Hayes, who heads Lane County Health and Human Services, is filling in as interim administrator. She has no plans to apply for the permanent position.
