Creswell High Administrators Resign After Bullying Text Messages Come To Light

Rachael McDonald

The Principal and Assistant Principal of Creswell High School resigned Friday after a week of controversy over bullying text messages. Some students walked out of class in protest of the administrators’ actions.

About 3 dozen Creswell High students walked out of class. During the protest they found out that Principal Andy Bracco and Assistant Principal Jordan Osborn resigned.

Kailea Nakooka is a 10th grader at Creswell High. She says she walked out of class to make it clear that bullying is not okay.
Nakooka: “We’re standing with the families that were affected by this and we’re showing that we’re not going to stand for this bullying. We’re going to protect and keep it positive.”
Bracco and Osborne were witnessed texting each other at a basketball game in Pleasant Hill on January 13th. They made fun of a student’s weigh and said another was doing drugs. Meg Stauffer’s daughter was one of the students targeted in the text messages.  She transferred from Creswell High because of bullying by other students. But to find out the principal was a part of it means it’s a bigger issue.
Stauffer: “You know, I don’t think people believe that it’s as much as it is but it’s a big deal. And when the administration starts being the bullies, and they’re the ones you’re supposed to be able to trust add they’re supposed to be standing behind you, that’s where the problem comes in.”
Stauffer says her daughter’s received community support since this incident.  Creswell Superintendent Todd Hamilton says former Creswell teacher and retired administrator Marcy Rice will step in as principal.
