The Lane County District Attorney has found sheriff's deputies were justified in their use of deadly force in an incident last month that resulted in a suspect and deputy being shot and wounded.
On September 25th, Lane County Sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired at a residence on London Road outside Cottage Grove. Lane County District Attorney Patty Perlow says Todd Olson and Richard Glessner were the responding Deputies. Carlos Roa is the suspect.
Perlow: "Mr. Roa was firing an AK 47. He turned toward law enforcement. He engaged in firing toward law enforcement and they returned fire and under those circumstances, it is most definitely a lawful use of deadly force."
Deputy Olson was shot and wounded as was the suspect, Carlos Roa. Both are reported in stable condition. Olson is recovering at home. Roa is lodged at the Lane County Jail. Because the criminal investigation is still underway, Perlow would not release more details on what happened.
