Oregon Democratic Congressman Peter DeFazio called on the Justice Department Wednesday to take action against the armed militants occupying the Malheur Wildlife Refuge.
Speaking on the House floor, DeFazio pointed out that the lights are still on in the buildings at Malheur. He wondered if anyone is keeping the lights on at the Justice Department.
DeFazio: “Hello? I don’t think there’s anybody there.”
DeFazio says Cliven Bundy, the father of the leaders of the occupation, has continued to defy the federal government by not paying his grazing fees in Nevada.
DeFazio: “And now his sons are replicating that in my state of Oregon where we abide by the laws. Yeah we disagree over a lot of federal policies but we abide by the laws. It’s time for the Justice Department to take some action. Wake up down there!”
The feds have remained quiet while the armed group has held the refuge near Burns for nearly 2 weeks. The group had planned a public meeting Friday to tell locals their plans, but Harney County leaders have refused to let them hold it on their property.
