Eugene's reputation as "Track Town USA" was well earned Saturday. Both the women's and men's teams were crowned NCAA Indoor Champions. It was the men's first title since 2009. This was the women's fifth consecutive championship. They are only the second team to accomplish this.
Heading into the final event, the Lady Ducks trailed both the University of Texas and Florida, which set p a winner-take-all 4 x 400 meter relay. The Ducks kept it close with Texas until the last stretch, when record-holder Phyllis Francis surged down the final stretch and crossed the finish line in 3:27:40, the 10th fastest time ever run by a 4 x 400 relay team.
The men's team finished with a school record 62 points. Edward Cheserek completed a double-event sweep in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters.
