Skate boarders may soon have more places to ride in Eugene. The City is considering making it legal for them to use streets and bike paths.
City of Eugene Pedestrian and Bicycle Coordinator Lee Shoemaker says he's heard from skate boarders who complain they can't skate on the streets or sidewalk in downtown and by the U of O campus. It's currently illegal to skateboard on Eugene's streets.

And one of the things that's happening now we're getting, this kind of, maybe even world class skate park, certainly one of the largest in the nation, and maybe that will generate even more skateboarding."
The new Eugene Skate Park is slated to open next year. The City is also considering expanding the area in downtown Eugene where skateboards and bikes are prohibited from sidewalks. The other proposal is to allow electric assist bicycles on off-street shared use paths.
The City of Eugene will hold a public open house on the proposed rule changes Monday night from 5:30 to 7 at the Downtown Library.
