Eugene YMCA Could Build New Facility Where Roosevelt Middle School Now Sits

Eugene Weekly.

The Eugene YMCA is hoping to build a new facility. The Eugene 4J School District needs to build a new middle school. The two entities are working together to find a solution.

4J and the YMCA issued a joint press release Friday saying they are looking into the idea of building a new Y where Roosevelt Middle School currently sits. The district is going to build a new middle school. This will open up the property at 24th and Hilyard. 4J could either convert it to soccer fields or offer up to 7 acres to the Y for a new facility.

Superintendent Shelley Berman wants the school board to initiate a public process to consider the option of selling, leasing or trading a portion of the property to the Y. The Y wanted to buy the Civic Stadium property from the district, but the City of Eugene had the winning bid.

The 4J Board will discuss the idea of sharing the Roosevelt property with the Y at its regular meeting March 19th at 7:00p.m.

The public is invited to share input April 1st on the initial design concepts for the new Roosevelt Middle School. Different versions will show the property with and without a YMCA.
