EWEB - The Next 100 Years!

Recorded on: June 12th, 2015

Air Date: June 15th, 2015

Delivery of utility services like electricity and water could take new directions especially for publicly owned utilities like Oregon’s largest publicly owned utility, Eugene Water & Electric Board (EWEB), a ratepayer-owned utility sometimes called one of the best in the nation.

EWEB is preparing to work on the next Integrated Electric Resource Plan (IERP) continuing community engagement to design a resilient energy future.

What can our utility do specifically to prepare itself and ratepayer-owners for climate change, and for probable declines in snowpack and rainfall?

What new strategies and planning processes may need to be adopted, consumer education launched to meet challenges and opportunities created by decentralized, home site and community renewable energy systems - in recent years called disruptive technology or distributed generation?

Will electric vehicles be an addition to its electricity load?   What role will Oregon's largest untapped energy source, solar energy, contribute?

Roger Gray, EWEB General Manager for five years and Mike Hatten, SOLARC Engineering and Energy & Architectural Consulting, that has designed net zero energy buildings and has consulted with utilities and others desiring transformative changes in the built environment, will stimulate the community to participate in continuing EWEB's legacy for innovation.
