Federal Recreational Lands Senior Pass Fee to Increase

National Park Service (NPS)

The cost of a National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Senior Pass will rise from $10 to $80 on August 28th. This is the first time the Senior Pass has increased in price since 1994.

Michael Campbell with the Bureau of Land Management says the increase is a part of keeping the over 2000 recreational sites managed by federal agencies accessible in years to come.

“Both the Senior Pass and the America the Beautiful Pass are really just reasonable ways for us to ensure that these parks and these great federal recreation opportunities will remain available for future generations," says Campbell. "That’s obviously what we want to do is make sure people have the opportunity to get outside and enjoy the bounty of Oregon and Washington recreation.”

The new cost was dictated by the National Park Service Centennial Act last year. It also authorized the sale of $20 annual passes for senior citizens. Senior Passes bought prior to August 28th will still be honored for life.
