Festival By The River

The Festival of Eugene is happening Friday and Saturday at Skinner Butte Park. The event came about after the annual Eugene Celebration was canceled for this year.

What started as a post on social media has become a full-blown festival. Wedding planner Krysta Albert organized the event after putting out a call on Facebook and getting a huge response. The original idea was to have the festival near 5th Street Public Market, but about a week ago, that plan fell through. Albert says she's pleased that it's at Skinner Butte Park along the Willamette River.

Albert: "Turns out there's a lot of history with this particular park. It used to be considered the city park. So it makes so much more sense. You know, before we were talking about being on a city street. The asphalt, the concrete. Now, we're talking about being able to listen to live music in the grass, in the shade of a tree."

Albert says there will be live bands, Middle Eastern dancers, a bubble man and more at the Festival. She says she's still fundraising to pay for the event. But it's free for participants.

The Festival of Eugene is Friday afternoon from 4 to 10 and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Skinner Butte Park.
