This Sunday, head to the Lane Events Center to stock your kitchen for the long winter.
The "Fill Your Pantry" event is an opportunity to buy locally grown crops at bulk prices. But this isn't about filling your fridge with lettuce—it's a chance to get storage and staple items like whole grains, carrots and honey.
Lynne Fessenden is the executive director of Willamette Farm and Food Coalition, the group sponsoring the event. She says it helps farms unload crops they can't keep themselves without large facilities.
Fessenden: "We've been encouraging people to think of their households as part of our food system infrastructure. And, if we help these farms by storing this food in our homes and eating it through the winter months, that's a great support."
Fessenden says the event will also teach people how to best store foods so they last through the winter. Last year, 1,500 shoppers attended, buying 28,000 pounds of food.
