Fire Crews Respond to Train Trestle Fire in Springfield

Fire crews responded to a large fire involving the Union Pacific Railroad trestle at South 2nd Street in Springfield early Monday morning.

Reports of the fire came in around 1:08 a.m. In a release, Eugene Springfield Fire said the flames threatened the nearby Hexion Chemical plant but crews were able to stop its spread.

Rail traffic has been stopped and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
