"Go" Evacuation Status Issued For Parts Of Douglas County

US Forest Service Umpqua National Forest

A level three, or “go,” evacuation status has been declared for parts of Douglas County as the Umpqua North Complex begins to threaten homes and businesses. The evacuation notice was for the Dry Creek and Illahee areas. Sgt. Brad O’Dell with the Douglas County Sheriff’s office says a level three evacuation notice means people need to vacate the area immediately otherwise they could be putting themselves at risk.

“If a resident decides to ignore that advisement they have to understand that emergency services may not be able to assist them any further," says Sgt. O'Dell. "So we do encourage them to not delay leaving, don’t wait to gather any belongings or make efforts to protect their home.”

A total of 17 to 25 residences are affected by the evacuation order. The Red Cross has set up a shelter for people displaced by the fire at the Glide Seventh Day Adventist Church. Law enforcement officers will be in the area to discourage looting of vacant homes. The Oregon Department of Transportation has also closed Highway 138 East between mile posts 39 and 54.
