Oregon Governor Kate Brown visited Eugene Monday to announce $13 million in grants and loans to help preserve Ya-Po- Ah Terrace.

The high-rise apartment building near Skinner’s Butte houses 222 seniors. It’s in need of repair. Brown spoke with reporters after a tour of the building

“It definitely needs some renovation and it needs additional resources.” Brown says, “And with the state of Oregon and the work the city of Eugene is doing we can continue to maintain this very vibrant and important facility and community for many families.”

The City of Eugene is contributing 1.5 million toward the project. Governor Brown announced the state and local funding to a large group of residents who clapped and cheered when they heard the news. Brown says affordable housing is one of her major budget priorities.
