A group of public safety advocates have formed a new non-profit to help out the Eugene Police Department.
Attorney John Brown is president of the Eugene Police Foundation. He says it will raise money for things that are beyond the department’s general budget. Brown has an example of what they’ll use the money for.
Brown: “We’re going to try and fund two thermal imaging devices to help police dogs in their environment. Because when they’re sent in, they’re sent in to a totally unknown, they have no idea if there’s other dogs, where humans are and things like that, and this can help the officer safety, the dog safety and the general public safety.”
Brown says the foundation is open to ideas for how to improve police training in addition to specific items that EPD might need to improve service and safety.
