In-Home Care Now Offered To People With Disabilities Under 60

oregonlive.com

Lane County is joining other areas of the state participating in a pilot program that expands in-home care to people with disabilities.

Oregon Project Independence originally launched in 1975, but was only eligible to people 60 and over. Services include personal care, home delivered meals, and housekeeping. Kate Scott is an Analyst for Lane County's Senior and Disabled Services.

Scott: "One of the main advantages on the financial side of providing in-home services through Oregon Project Independence is it does help delay or prevent individuals from going into costly  residential care facilities, assisted living facilities, nursing facilities, where the costs just add up very, very, quickly."

Scott says the state has noticed a rise in in-home care services in recent years. Services are available based on a sliding fee scale based on income. It is not offered to consumers receiving Medicaid.
