Inslee, Brown Among Governors To Sign Clean-Energy Accord

Govs. Jay Inslee of Washington and Kate Brown of Oregon were among the 17 state executives to sign onto a clean-energy agreement announced Tuesday.

The “Governors Accord for a New Energy Future”brings together Republican and Democratic governors from across the country.

Inslee and others were light on specifics during a conference call with reporters. He said the agreement will focus on expanding clean energy sources and low-carbon transportation options, as well as modernizing the electrical grid.

“Now we know each state is unique, each governor has different priorities but all 17 have recognized that we can achieve meaningful priorities on our shared priorities by working together on clean energy,” Inslee said.

Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval of Nevada, who also signed on to the accord, said he was excited to work with neighboring California in promoting clean energy.

Nevada has come under criticism from the solar industry for a recent decision to dramatically cut payments to solar producers and triple their monthly charges.

The 17 governors plan to get to work hammering out the details of the clean energy accord in the coming weeks.
