The Eugene City Council voted 5 to 1 Wednesday to make the name “Kesey Square” official.
The plaza in downtown Eugene was officially called Broadway Plaza, but everyone called it Kesey Square. A statue of the famous local author was placed in the space in 2003.
The council wants to enhance the square in some way to make it more welcoming but there’s still debate over what that would entail. Councilor Mike Clark voted against renaming the plaza.
