After 32 years, KLCC's beloved Music Director Michael Canning is hanging up his microphone. Michael's last day at KLCC is February 29, 2016.
With his retirement KLCC says goodbye to one of the most recognizable and melodic voices on our air. A voice that will be missed by staff and listeners far and wide.
Michael shared his memories at a KLCC staff meeting last week, and reminded us of the significant presence this station has had in the community for almost 5 decades. He reflected on moments like the very first Radiothon, coverage of the October Surprise and Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings, One Giant Leap, ice cream socials, airplane rides above Autzen Stadium during a Grateful Dead show, staff retreats, dozens of Oregon Country Fairs and Eugene Celebrations, countless live musical performances in our studios, and Saturday afternoons with the Rooster Man. He expressed amazement at the dedication of our community volunteers, sharing their vision of the world through music week after week, year after year.
He reminded us of the important work we do here, and the voice we provide for our community. He said the station currently "has more players at the skill positions" than ever before, leaving him comfortable to step down and "take up a little less space... speak less, hear more, read more, compute less, sleep more, worry less, observe more, rush less..."
To that the staff gave him a standing O, and we are sure many listeners would like to do the same! Notes to Michael can be sent to email@example.com or mailed to KLCC at 136 W 8th Ave, Eugene OR 97401
