KLCC Milestones- 50 years of events and achievements!

KLCC History:

In 1967 the Lane Community College Electronics Dept created a radio station for educational purposes, primarily airing news and public affairs programming.  Within a short time, the station moved to LCC’s Mass Communication Dept, joined CPB and NPR, and added a variety of music programming significant to the socio-political unrest of the times.

Through the years, KLCC has evolved to meet the changing needs of its audience by increasing NPR programming, deepening local news coverage, and expanding its geographic reach.

KLCC’s first day of broadcasting was February 17, 1967 (known then as KPNW) with 440 watts of power and about 250 Eugene listeners. Today, 50 years later, KLCC’s 81,000 watts serve over 90,000 weekly listeners throughout western and central Oregon. Ten transmitters provide service from the Oregon coast to Bend, and Roseburg to Salem -- and all communities in between.

Once available only on FM radio, KLCC can now be streamed online and also heard via the KLCC app. News and information make up the majority of KLCC daytime programming while preserving an eclectic range of music programming in the evenings and on weekends.
