Lane County Updates Human Rights Plan

Lane County

Lane County has updated its human rights plan. It was approved unanimously by the Board of Commissioners Tuesday.

Lane County Administrator Steve Mokrohisky says the plan was developed over a year with input from community leaders and organizations as well as staff. It includes creating a Human Rights Advisory Body. Mokrohisky says community stakeholders will have a role.

"That's really a big focus of this new plan is making sure that we're creating opportunities to have ongoing, formal conversations with our community partners and listening to opportunities for improvement, and really building a positive future for all people throughout our community."

Other priorities include creating a formal structure to respond to incidents of hate and bias and to require diversity training for all county employees.

Morkrohisky says the county is working with the city of Eugene on strategies to offer temporary shelters for people who are homeless and facing the upcoming winter.
