Lincoln County Sweep For Sex Offenders And Wanted Persons

Lincoln County

Last week the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office took part in a two day sweep to make sure sex offenders were in compliance with registering their address. Police were also looking for people with warrants.

The U.S. Marshalls Office requested the Lincoln County sweep, known as "Operation Tidal Wave." A number of law enforcement agencies worked together in teams of 4 or 5 officers who were assigned to cover a certain area. Detective David Boys is with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.

Det. Boys: "That particular team received packets of information on people that we're looking for and also people that are registered sex offenders that we need to check on or are out of compliance, and then went out and did those missions. Part of that is just knocking on doors and looking for people that haven't reported or are wanted by the courts."

171 sex offenders were contacted to make sure they were staying at the address they put down as part of their registration requirement. Sixteen people were arrested on active warrants.
