Oregon election officials say they’re getting complaints from voters over a letter informing them of their registration status. KLCC’s Brian Bull reports.
The letters are from the D.C. based Voter Participation Center. They say the recipient is not registered, and attached pre-filled registration forms are outdated or inaccurate.
The Oregon Secretary of State has issued a warning, urging people to check their status online at oregonvotes.gov, or with their county.
Cheryl Betschart is the Lane County Clerk. She says they’ve taken lots of calls from alarmed voters.
“Why the data would be out of date, I am not sure, we don’t know where that data’s been collected. In Lane County and throughout Oregon we actively update --on a daily basis -- information received from our voters.”
Oregonians have until October 18th to register or update their information before this Election Day.
The Voter Participation Center did not respond to requests for comment.
Meanwhile, Betschart says the “motor voter” law that went into effect this year seems to have had a significant effect.
“In Lane County we have over 235,000 registered voters, and it’s our highest voter registration ever.”
