Meeting The Medical Needs of Lane County's Newly Insured

Meeting Date: June 20th, 2014

Air Date: June 23, 2014

Some 30,000 Lane County residents who had no health insurance last year are now covered by the Affordable Care Act. To provide care to the newly insured requires meeting challenges, not least of which is the nationwide shortage of primary care physicians.

Keeping people healthy by providing preventive care is a major goal of the Affordable Care Act. That can not only create a healthier population, but also can lower the cost of health care. But there is no quick fix. City Club guest speakers, Dr. Kincaid, Dr. Luedtke, and Debi Farr will describe the challenge of providing primary care to so many newly insured. They will discuss possible solutions being developed by teamwork involving Trillium, the local coordinated care organization, PeaceHealth, and Lane County Public Health.
