More Federal Funds To House Veterans In SW Oregon

Veterans' Housing Project

Congressman Peter DeFazio has announced federal grant funding of nearly $1 million to help homeless veterans in southwestern Oregon.

The Veteran’s Administration has awarded just under $1 million to organizations that serve homeless veterans in the region. $300 thousand will go to St. Vincent de Paul for its work in Linn, Benton and Lincoln counties. Paul Neville with St. Vinnie’s says the funds are specifically to help vets find and keep stable housing. He gives an example of a call that came in this week.
Neville: “About a veteran who’s living in a tent by the river with his children, and his family, and unaware apparently of assistance that’s available for him.”
Neville says St. Vinnie’s will help the veteran find housing and employment. The rest of the federal grant is for veterans in Jackson, Josephine, Douglas, Coos and Curry Counties.
