Thursday, Mount Pisgah Arboretum near Eugene will celebrate the completion of a 100-foot long bridge that's been in the works for more than four years.

The original Adkison foot-bridge was built in 1983. Brad van Appel is Executive Director of Mount Pisgah Arboretum. He says it wasn't built to last and was finally condemned more than 4 years ago. Van Appel says the community came together to raise 150 thousand dollars and gave hundreds of volunteer hours to rebuild the bridge.

van Appel "It's a beautiful structure that will continue to serve the community for years to come. This time we built it out of materials that were meant to last outside. So we expect it to be a big part of our trail system and our educational programs for many years to come."

The Adkison Bridge is in the middle of the water garden, a popular spot for school children visiting the arboretum on field trips. The dedication takes place Thursday morning at 11 at Mount Pisgah Arboretum.
