Ophelia's Place Opens 2nd Location In Junction City

Ophelia's Place on Facebook.

A Eugene-based community center for girls is opening a second location this weekend in Junction City.

Ophelia’s Place started in 2005 as a place where girls age 10 to 18 can come to talk to a trusted adult. It’s grown to include classes and activities for girls on a drop-in basis after school. Executive Director Verna Wise Matthews says Ophelia’s Place is a safe place for girls.

“Where they’re taught communications skills as well as other life skills. It means that they learn how to have a voice and hold onto that voice even when they are being challenged.”

Matthews says they started doing programs in Junction City schools years ago. Members of the local Soroptomist Club, the school district, and community leaders helped establish the new after-school drop in center in Junction City.

The grand opening is on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 10-2, at the corner of 15th Avenue & Kalmia Street in Junction City.
