Oregon Advocacy Group Targets KFC Chickens

Associated Press

As part of a national campaign to stop the use of antibiotics in factory farm-raised meat, an Oregon advocacy group is targeting KFC chickens.

OSPIRG, the Oregon State Public Interest Research Group, is trying to convince KFC to stop using chickens treated with drugs. There’s concern about use of antibiotics in agriculture because it increases the chances bacteria will become resistant to the medication.  Bobbi Wilson is a campaign organizer with OSPIRG.

Wilson: “And there’s already a growing list of national chains that have committed to serve meat that’s raised without the routine use of antibiotics. So, among those we’ve helped to get both McDonalds and Subway to take action and this year we’re working to get more restaurants to follow suit.”
Wilson says OSPIRG has been in contact with KFC and hopes the chain will pledge to cease its use of antibiotic treated chicken by the end of August. This week, OSPIRG plans to deliver petition signatures to the fast food chain urging action.
