The Oregon House passed a resolution Wednesday that supports increased trade relations with China.
According to the resolution, Oregon exported $3.7 billion in goods to China in 2016, making it the state’s top trade partner last year.
Republican Rep. Brock Smith of Port Orford read the resolution, which outlines efforts between Oregon and China to strengthen investments and exports as well as tourism.
“China is Oregon’s number one source of international visitors with more than 60,000 Chinese citizens visiting Oregon annually,” Smith read.
In January, the United States pulled out of the proposed 12-country Trans-Pacific Partnership. The demise of that trade deal stands to hurt some Northwest industries that trade with Asia, including agriculture, manufacturing and aerospace businesses.
