Oregon Publishes Guide on How to Talk to Your Kids About Marijuana

Oregon Health Authority

With marijuana legal for adults 21 and over in Oregon, parents may not know how to talk to their kids about it. The state has produced an online toolkit to help initiate the conversation.

Marijuana is now almost as easy to buy as alcohol and tobacco in Oregon with dispensaries popping up in shopping centers and neighborhoods. The Oregon Health Authority has released online tools, including this video, to help parents talk to their kids about pot.

Video clip: "The first is that the guide has a lot of really concrete information about the potential health effects of marijuana on young people. This will help you go into your conversation with your kids, being able to separate science from myth and really be real with them about the potential health consequences."

Tips for parents include asking children what they know about marijuana and helping them role play how to turn it down. There's information about how to tell if your teen is using weed. And advice on how to talk to your kids if you're the one lighting up.

The parent guide is available from theOregon Health Authority.
