Oregon State Parks To Open 1000 More Campsites For Eclipse

Wikipedia

It may not be too late to reserve a campsite this August for the Great American Eclipse. Spokesman Chris Havel says Oregon State Parks are opening reservations for 1000 more campsites to accommodate the unprecedented number of visitors flocking to the area to witness this once-in-a-generation event.

“If all of those sites fill that puts us in the range of maybe 10,000 to 15,000 people in the state park system,” says Havel. “And that’s just camping groups. We have other parks that are going to be open just for the day and we imagine that they will be full as well.”

A third of the new reservable campsites are ones usually restricted to a “first come, first serve” basis. But the majority of the sites are located in areas such as parking lots and fields that are being opened up for dry-camping. There is a three-night minimum for reservations due to difficult road conditions leading up to the eclipse. It is also likely that campfires will be banned. Reservations open on April 19th at 8 AM. It is suggested that interested parties research campgrounds in advance as spots are anticipated to go fast.
