The Oregon State Beavers are headed to the finals of the 2018 College World Series. After falling in their first game in the CWS to North Carolina, they climbed their way through the loser's bracket, winning four in a row and beat Mississippi State 5 to 2 in Omaha Saturday night.
Pitchers Kevin Abel and Jake Mulholland combined on a four-hitter. Tyler Malone hit a three-run homer, his third home run of the College World Series. Adley Rutschman drove in one run on Saturday, bringing his season RBI total to 80, the most by a Pac-12 player since 2008.
The game came down to the final out with the bases loaded with Mississippi runners as Jordan Westburg came up to bat. Westburg hit a walk-off grand slam earlier in the CWS against North Carolina, but there was no grand slam this time. Instead, a ground ball to the shortstop and a quick throw to second ended the inning and the game.
The Beavers will face Arkansas in game one of the best of three series on Monday at 4 pm, PST.
