Oregon Universities to Participate in Make a Difference Day

The University of Akron.

Make a Difference Day is the largest national day of community service in the U.S. Oregon State University and the University of Oregon are hosting multiple service projects on Saturday. KLCC’s Corinne Boyer has more.

On October 25, millions of volunteers will be participating in activities like planting gardens, assisting animal shelters and volunteering.

OSU’s Center for Civic Engagement Coordinator Sam Rufener says the school has participated in Make a Difference Day for the last three years.

“Watching students kind of get out and make the connection that there are needs in their greater Corvallis community is really, really awesome, and students generally have a really good time. They meet people that they might have not met if they didn’t go on the project, and I think it’s a really great opportunity that our office offers.”

Rufener expects OSU will have around 70 volunteers this year. The U of O is hoping for around 250.
