Park Planners Look At Honeyman Trails

Oregon State Parks

Planners are gathering information about trails at Honeyman State Park in Florence. There's a public meeting Thursday evening.

Honeyman is a popular hiking and camping spot for tourists and locals. The park is on both sides of Highway 101 south of Florence. There's a pedestrian bridge over the highway. There's also a social trail, one that's not officially-maintained, that crosses 101. It's not very safe. But Jamie English with Oregon State Parks says it's popular with locals.
English:"So the overall project that we're looking at is really taking a close look at the trails throughout the entire park, not just the crossings. We want to understand how those trails are used by locals and also our visitors from around the state and around the country."
English says at the meeting they'll talk about alternatives for crossing Highway 101 and other ideas for trail development.
The meeting is Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 at Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue in Florence.
