A daycare operator in Bend has been arrested and charged after abandoning seven kids left in her care…for a tanning appointment. KLCC’s Brian Bull reports.
Bend Police arrested January Neatherlin outside a tanning salon Wednesday. Lieutenant Jason Maniscalco sums up that morning.
“We received an anonymous complaint that she was leaving some kids home alone, so we observed some people drop off their kids early in the morning, and continued to watch the house," Maniscalco tells KLCC.
"And then she left, and there were seven kids between the ages of six months and four years inside alone, without supervision.
"It was a shock to everybody.”
Parents were notified, and the children taken to a medical center for examination.
Neatherlin faces seven counts each of child neglect, criminal mistreatment, and reckless endangerment.
Oregon state records show complaints against Neatherlin in 2014 and 2016, for practicing child care without a license. And records show several convictions under two aliases, January Livsey and January Brooks.
Bend police welcome any more information about the daycare or Neatherlin.
