Regional Unemployment Rates Drop In November

Oregon Employment Department

In both Lane and Douglas Counties, the unemployment rate was down last month.

Unemployment dropped to 5.8 percent in Lane County in November. That’s down from 6.1 percent in October.
Brian Rooney is a regional economist with the state Employment Department.
Rooney: “We’re seeing this kind of steady, moderate, almost strong employment growth in Lane County over the past several months.”
Rooney says November saw gains in retail trade due to holiday hiring. In Douglas County, the unemployment rate is higher than Lane’s. But it dropped to 7.5 percent last month. Rooney says that’s down from 8.8 percent a year ago. Rooney says this is a significant drop.
