Rules For Rural Events Clarified By Lane County

Lane County

Organizers must get a license to have a gathering with 1,000 to 3,000 attendees in rural Lane County.

The Board of Commissioners Tuesday approved the ordinance concerning large outdoor events on private land. The license application requires organizers to demonstrate that they'll meet minimum health and safety standards, including noise and traffic impacts. Kier Miller is a senior planner with the county.

Miller: "This is for sort of the size events that aren't quite a mass gathering which are regulated under the state rules. We've had some contentious events pop up out in Triangle Lake and in other parts of the county and this is really more what these rules are geared toward."

Miller says the ordinance does not address Emerald Meadows, where the county has suspended events for 2015 after neighbors complained about noise and traffic at the site near Mt. Pisgah. The county has created a task force to look at large events at Emerald Meadows.
