School Board Candidates Forum: Bethel School District and Eugene School District 4J

Recorded on: May 8th, 2015

Air Date: May 11th, 2015

Ten candidates for contested elections to Eugene school board positions will tell City Club members about the skills and experiences they can offer their districts. They are also invited to describe the issues they see as most significant and how they would seek to resolve them.

Of the three Bethel School Board positions up for election this year, only one is contested. Blake Holton is running for Position 6 against Ginger Poage, who has served since 1983.

Four school board positions for District 4J will appear on this May’s ballot. Three candidates are running for Position 4, from which Craig Smith is retiring after 20 years on the board. District 4J incumbents in contested races are Jim Torrey and Mary Walston.

As City Club members ponder which candidates can best guide our children’s education, they may have remaining questions after the candidates’ presentations. At the end of the meeting members can engage the speakers in City Club’s customary Q&A session.
