The Simpsons animated TV series is 25 years old this week. Matt Groening is believed to have based the fictional home of the Simpsons family on Springfield, Oregon, in his home-state.
Lane County's tourism agency has created a self-guided tour of landmarks believed to be the inspiration for places in the show. Lisa Lawton is with Travel Lane County.
Lawton: "The tour stops, of course, are not all in Springfield. The Pioneer Statue, for example on the U of O campus, which many fans claim to be the statue of Jebidiah Springfield on the show is included. Another stop is Max's Tavern which is said to be the inspiration for Mo's Tavern on the series, right down to the jar of pickled eggs on the bar."
A Simpsons mural was installed in Springfield this summer with the blessing of creator Matt Groening and the Fox TV network.
