Sen. Wyden Tells Albany Town Hall He Will Keep Challenging Trump's Actions

Todd Dalotto

Oregon U.S. Senator Ron Wyden spoke with an overflow crowd at a town hall meeting in Albany Saturday. The audience expressed fear and concern about the Trump Administration.

Hundreds came to hear what their senior democratic senator had to say about what’s going on in Washington D.C.  Wyden said he will continue to question President Trump’s executive orders and nominations. He said this in response to three questions about impeaching the president.

Wyden: “What I’m going to do is spend all the time necessary to push back when I see policies that are flawed. And we’re not going to take anything off the table. Nobody’s asked about the Supreme Court yet. We’re going to insist on 60 votes for a Supreme Court nomination.”

Wyden said he would not let nominee Neil Gorsuch attack Oregon’s landmark Death With Dignity law. And he said if the President believes there was voter fraud, the country should adopt the Beaver State’s vote-by-mail system. Wyden thanked everyone for speaking out and marching.

He also said he would stand up to rollbacks of environmental protections and will fight for renewable energy. Wyden said when it comes to health care, access and coverage are not the same thing.

An 11-year-old girl asked how she and her friends could grow up to be senators. Wyden offered her an internship when she's older. In the meantime, he encouraged her to stay involved, get a good education and study a foreign language.
